A beautiful city nestled on Costa Brava, Lloret de Mar has access to some of the region’s most pristine beaches the largest of which, Lloret Beach, has been awarded the the Blue Flag award for cleanliness. People from all over Europe travel via Barcelona to Lloret de Mar, making it a must-see tourist hotspot for anyone looking to spend time in the sun and on the sand.
There are many coves, inlets, and stretches of sand which make up the area’s variety of beaches; with easy access from the airport in Barcelona to Lloret de Mar, these beaches have become major destinations for young people from places like Denmark, France, the UK, the rest of Portugal, and even as far away as America and Australia. Lloret
The most popular beach in the area, and the beach from which the town gets its name, is Lloret Beach, located right off the main city centre. This beautiful sandy coastline is almost 1.5 km long and is popular with both locals and tourists. During peak season, this beach is completely packed with sunbathers, swimmers, and people playing beach sports. This is definitely the place to see and be seen, and people travel from Barcelona to Lloret de Mar to be amongst the sunbathers on these sands.
Fenals
Fenals is the second longest beach, measuring just over 800 metres long. It is a bit more secluded when compared to Lloret Beach and is separated from it by a large massif, which creates a buffer from the wind and the city noise. However it still offers glimpses of the high buildings through the trees.
Santa Cristina
If you want something a little more removed, but still easily accessible, check out Santa Cristina beach. A calm cove is created by two high hills on either side on one of them is Santa Cristina chapel, from which you can access the beach by taking the little pathway from the left side of the church and following it down to the sand. Once you’re there, you’ll be treated to soft bird songs and gentle waves. Though less popular with locals and people travelling from Barcelona to Lloret de Mar, it’s still a great beach to visit.
Canyelles
One of the farthest beaches from the town centre is Canyelles Beach. This beach is covered in the soft white sand that is typical of Costa Brava, and the high hills surrounding the beach itself are covered in pine trees. This creates the illusion of remoteness that makes for a very relaxing place to spend an afternoon. Access to this beach is easy. On the road that leads to Tossa de Mar, there’s a pathway on the right side that descends down onto the beach – but be careful because it’s easy to miss.
